What most people don't understand is that the "secret" part of the Secret Service is to whack people that the Deep State doesn't like, in such ways that it gets blamed on others.

Britain was heavily infested with Soviet spies, the Cambridge 5 being just the tip of the iceberg. No surprise, America became infested too. James Angleton lost his job for his perceived Soviet allegiances, but not before, in my opinion, spearheading the intelligence community's coordinated assassination of JFK.
Today's Deep State leans heavily socialist. Is this a surprise? This is what Trump is fighting.
