This is the anniversary of the Allied D-Day invasion of Nazi Europe on June 6th, 1944. This link has many photos from the day:
My father was too old to make a good foot soldiers, so they drafted him to work on radios. These were the cell phones of the time. He worked with George Patton's tank people in Great Britain at the time. Compliments of Signal Corp training, he became very talented in electronics, and rose to the highest rank he could, based solely upon skill. (Tech Sergeant: 3 stripes on top and a rocker on the bottom.)
The power of Patton's tanks got multiplied when you can coordinate them. And radio was used to do this. It was a new innovation at the time, and my father helped to develop this.
My father landed on Normandy a few weeks after D-Day, along with Patton's army. They were still rather rag tag upon arriving in Normandy. Patton didn't inherit the Army he was famous for. He created it himself, and my father helped him do this. I doubt that my father knew Patton himself, though he is said to have installed a radio in Patton's tank.
My father accompanied Patton's people, and the Allied Army, into Paris at its liberation. He took part in the American liberation parade. By the time of the Battle of the Bulge, my father was further south, accompanying the 44th Infantry Division. He took part in Operation Nordwind, which the Germans launched a few weeks after the Bulge, after the Americans de-nuded the troops in the area to defend the Bulge.
In much the same way, Donald Trump is cleaning up the American Deep State. After WW II, America didn't have serious intelligence capabilities. President Truman asked the British to help set up these capabilities. With pleasure! British intelligence was heavily infiltrated with Soviet spies, the Cambridge Five being just the tip of the iceberg. So American intelligence became heavily infiltrated by Soviets also. President Eisenhower's warning about the "military industrial complex" likely references Britain's MI-5 and MI-6, the MI being for "military intelligence".
The Deep State's heavy leaning towards Socialism is evident to this day. Are many Deep Staters taking orders from the Russians or Chinese? Who knows. But this is what Trump is up against in trying to reign in the Deep State.
