This is the first time I've seen the Ice Age mentioned in a discussion of climate change. It's progress. It's like mentioning the concept of sex, rather than storks, when discussing babies.
One more concept gets you there. When you heat a liquid, you boil off the gases that are dissolved in the liquid. The oceans on earth contain dissolved CO2, which partially boils off with an increase in temperature. This is not something that anyone disputes.
Al Gore's main case for global warming was data from gases dissolved in ice from the ice packs of Antarctica and Greenland. Scientists said that increases in CO2 in the frozen ice occurred at the same time as increases in temperature. Al Gore said that this was proof that increasing in atmospheric CO2 caused increases in global temperature, and stated that mankind caused the increases in CO2, thus causing global warming.
But science advances. Increased ability to analyze the ice showed that the trapped CO2 in the ice formed 800 years, on average, after the associated global warming. Thus the CO2 increase was caused by the global warming. The cause and effect got switched. This was discovered before Al Gore released his favorite movie. Al Gore blamed this on feedback mechanisms.
Al Gore claims he won the race, but he was 800 years behind the other guy. OK.
